Tracing a shower leak before anyone retiles

Find where water escapes first, or the retile may not fix it.

Beveridge 3753 · 9 June 2026

In short: A wet floor beside a shower can come from a seal, a missing water stop or a failed membrane. Each needs a different repair.

The usual suspects

Failed sealant at the shower step-down, a missing water stop at the doorway, and joint filler between shower and bath acting as a path for water.

Mapping the moisture

Moisture readings across the floor and lower walls show where water is travelling and how far.

Looking underneath

Where there is subfloor access, we look at framing below the wet area. On one investigation that revealed an active shower leak tied to movement.

Why cause matters

Resealing fixes a failed seal. It does nothing for a missing water stop or a failed membrane.

In new Beveridge homes

Our waterproofing stage checks record the same weak points before tiling: unsealed penetrations and missing water stops.
