Structural damage in a ceiling: what happens next
When we refer an item to a structural engineer, and why.
In short: At a Beveridge handover we found evidence of structural damage in the ceiling structure. Here is how that kind of finding is handled.
What we found
Evidence of structural damage in the ceiling structure of a near-complete Beveridge house, with a recommendation that a structural engineer assess it.
Why refer it
Our role is to identify and record. Deciding how a structural member is repaired is an engineering question.
Earlier warning signs
Damaged studs and plates, split studs and cut bracing are all recorded at frame and lock-up on Beveridge builds. Each one is cheaper to fix early.
What the builder should provide
An engineer's assessment and repair detail, then evidence the repair was done.
Following up
We can return to confirm the repair was carried out as the engineer detailed.
